A new town needs a digital home
Waterbeach is one of the UK’s largest strategic development sites, transforming a former RAF airfield and Royal Engineers base into a new Cambridgeshire town with excellent connections to Cambridge.
Set around a 23-acre lake and inherited woodland, it is a development with a distinctive story to tell.
Urban&Civic needed a website that could tell that story clearly, and keep telling it as the development evolved. From explaining the ecology and archaeology work taking place before a single home was built, through to helping potential residents find and buy a home, and now serving an active and growing community, the demands on the site have shifted considerably since we first built it in 2019.

Seven years of evolution, one consistent platform
The Waterbeach website has grown in step with the development itself. Built on WordPress, it has been designed, developed and supported by Consider throughout, adapting to new phases and new priorities without losing the thread of what the project is trying to achieve.
Recent work includes the interactive Life By The Lake sections, which bring the natural setting of the development to life online, and custom place maps that help both existing residents and potential new buyers understand what makes Waterbeach distinctive.
The connections section and interactive map give visitors a clear picture of how the development links to Cambridge and the surrounding area.
As Waterbeach has matured from a planning-stage project into an active community with schools, homes, events and facilities, the website has matured alongside it.
